plant folio 78v, the occulation of the moon, drug containers

“to its deciphering, he devoted unflagging toil.

Sphinxes as these obey no one but their master.” – Cronland

For the Monday June 9, 2025 report, I want to relate a systematic archetype for cryptography composed of code, cypher, transposition, and substitution.

I developed a strange acquaintance with a script in the possession of one Wilfred Voynich, who was known for collecting rare books for J. Pierpoint Morgan. The text was collected at a private auction at the Villa Mondragon for for 25,000 dollars, valued at 100,000 by Voynich. The possession of the manuscript can be traced to Rudolph II, Emperor of Bohemia who acquired it for 600 ducats, an enormous sum at the time. It’s ownership was passed to Lord Cronland, Voynich, the widow Mrs. Voynich who sold the copy to a Mr. H.P. Kraus. The text is the ostensible archetype for cryptographic scripts, plant illustrations, celestial spheres, herbal folios, and drug containers.

The Buffalo News made a note that Voynich was “cast into a dungeon without trial and remained there for a couple of years, finally being banished to Siberia by order of the czar. Three times he escaped. Twice he was recaptured, but in the third attempt to get away … he was successful. Collecting rare books and art objects is a pasttime with him.” Voynich claims that the manuscript was written in cypher due to “fear that if the text of this manuscript became known [the author] would be burned or hanged.”

Attempts to cryptanalyse the Voynich manuscript, studying ligatured verbal forms, the precedence order of terms inserts nihilist transpositions for linguistic analysis. Twice, in 1962 and 1963, a team of “dedicated wives” were transcribing the manuscript at the Radio Corporation of Amerca, for cryptologic extraction using an n-graphs, letter permutation, and digitzed collections for morphologies. The project was scrapped because upper management at RCA wanted terminate the second focus group from any conclusive findings. Voynich’s script isof relevance for encyphering alphabet key sequences with 66,000 encoded characters. Cryptographic analysis on the script’s frequency counts showed adigitized complexities that ascribed the folios with trigraphic symbols.

The herbal folios typically transpose symbols that document biopower as a series of practices, labeling various plant species. Folio 116v, read as High German was cryptanalysed by imposing the morphologies for a technical xenocrpt. It read, “the above is false so do not take it.” This concept of biopower and the political applications for contemporary sciences should elucidate a morphology that forms the basis for non-objectivist cyptanalysis.
